BCYA sealBergen County Youth Assembly

Six students. Six towns. One county.

The Bergen County Youth Assembly is a nonpartisan, student-led youth organization serving Bergen County, New Jersey. We make free resources for students and deliver them through schools.

Together.To serve.To strengthen our community.

About

Students building what students need.

BCYA began in November 2025 and was formally formed on July 11, 2026. Each of the six founders leads one project. Every project is published under one name, so a student in any town can trust where it came from.

  1. Listen

We start with a need that students around us have named.

  2. Research

We use official and expert sources, and we name each source.

  3. Create

A student writes the resource in words that students will read.

  4. Review

A professional in the field checks the resource before it goes out.

  5. Deliver

Schools, libraries, and community offices share it with students.

Tutoring

Need a tutor? Ask us.

BCYA offers free peer tutoring for Bergen County students in kindergarten through grade 11. Our tutors are high school students who know the classes because they took them recently.

  • Free. There is no cost to the student or the family.
  • Tutors you can trust. Every BCYA founder is a member of the National Honor Society at his or her own high school.
  • Core subjects. We cover the main school subjects, with English and math first.
  • Six schools. Our tutors come from six high schools across the county.

How to ask for a tutor

  1. Fill out the request form. It takes about three minutes.
  2. Tell us the student’s grade, school, and the subject.
  3. A BCYA student writes back and matches the student with a tutor.

Join

Want to join us?

High school students who live or go to school in Bergen County may apply. Membership is by application and interview. We look for students who sincerely want to serve Bergen County and who are ready to do steady, careful work for other people.

Members take part in one or more of these ways:

  • Work on a project. Help write, research, design, or deliver one of our six projects.
  • Tutor. Help a younger student in a subject you are strong in.
  • Bring BCYA to your school. Share our booklets with your counseling office and your classmates.

How to apply

  1. Fill out the application form.
  2. The BCYA officers read every application.
  3. Selected applicants are invited to an interview.
  4. We email each applicant a decision after the interview.
Apply to join BCYA

Sending an application does not guarantee a place. Accepted students join as members. Seats on the board are filled only by a vote of the members.
